Create A Simple Blogger Template

Lesson 4: Let’s being by creating a simple skeletal Blogger template to start exploring the designing later.

Create A Simple Blogger Template | Mission 4 Previously, we had seen some basics of all the sections/parts/chunks of the Blogger template. We had also explored some basics of coding involved in these designing. Today, its time to design a very basic Blogger template skeletal structure.

Sounds exciting? Let’s see the mission before beginning!

Mission 4: Create a simple Blogger skeletal structure of the first basic template. We will use some low level coding of CSS and the other commonly found elements of Blogger template into this simple Blogger template.

Note: We are not going to use the reference template anymore We are going to design one. You can download the designed skeletal template from the below download link:

The template has been tested under: Chrome, Firefox and IE8.

Important: Save your template file with .xml extension in your hard-disk if you are designing from scratch. XML files are used to upload it to the Blogger template dashboard. XML is used because of easy importing and data storage facility. XML and HTML are not the same.

Don’t get scared by the huge chunk of code I’ve pasted here. Those are by default available for Blogger templates. These codes do a lot of stuffs like displaying the blog posts in the front page, display the blog archives, create a “add a gadget” link on your template dashboard, create the comments to be seen and so on.

NOTE: There are some codes marked in color above, those are the code generated after adding a gadget and these codes are seen only when the template is in expanded state.

Codes in Color:
1) Blue Code: Code for HEADER Widget
2) Maroon Code: Code for PROFILE Widget on the right sidebar(Notice that it is under the “sidebar-wrapper” section.
3) Green Code: Code to display the BLOG ARCHIVE widget on the right sidebar.
4) Red Code: Code for the FOOTER TEXT widget I’ve used.

CSS STYLINGS:
I don’t want to paste a huge chunk of CSS codes into this blog post again and create a chaos.
Rest of the things are controlled by the CSS for displaying the stuffs beautifully on the web browsers. I suggest you to download the template and go through the template CSS thoroughly for each and every element. There are comments inserted in the CSS explaining what those codes are.
